"I'm REALLY good at stripping membranes."

Had another appointment today.  At my clinic, there are four doctors that see all the patients; you are not attached to any one doctor.

Sooooo, the doctor today did all the usual stuff (my blood pressure was NORMAL!! - I have been having some issues with that) and then asked if I wanted my membranes stripped.  I told her it was done on Monday by a different doctor and resulted in some mild menstrual cramps, but nothing more.

Her reply?

"Well, I'm REALLY good at stripping membranes."

HOLY SHIT!  What a difference!  For comparison sakes, let's say the doctor I saw on Monday gently swept one finger around for about 5 seconds, producing a mild discomfort.  Today, it felt like she shoved her entire hand up there, and swirled it around for 10 seconds and THEN said, "only 5 more seconds!" as I writhed in pain.  I do believe I was ONLY moaning in pain, not screaming, thankfully!!

If THIS doesn't get things moving, I don't know what will!!  I am still in pain, not contractions at all, just really sore.  About as sore as you think you might feel after a hand was shoved into your uterus.

No blood yet (she said I may have a few days of bleeding), and an ultrasound scheduled for Friday.

Tentative induction scheduled for May 26. :-(  But I really don't think it will come to that.

Presents from Japan!

Thank you to Katy, Craig and baby Kai!!

Ultrasound on Tuesday

I have to wait until the radiologist completes a report and sends it to my doctor, but the tech was able to tell a few things...

She estimated baby's weight to be 7 pounds, 14 ounces!!!  It can be off by up to a pound in either direction.  That's big enough, thanks.  I don't want to birth no Buddha baby!!  Also, the tech could see hair.  She tried to show me, but I really couldn't see anything!

Place your bets!

At my doctor's appointment yesterday I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced!!  Naturally, this got me very excited until I went home and Googled it.  Apparently, you can be in this state for WEEKS!!!  My due date is Sunday.  Will she be early or late?  Shian is convinced she'll arrive on Friday the 13th.

No contractions yet...

Early Morning Thoughts

First, here are a few pictures from the baby shower my work friends threw for me this week:

I'm up at 7:30 on a beautiful Sat. morning because it's so uncomfortable to sleep.  I'm 9 months, 1 week now and CANNOT WAIT for the big day!  I started to pack my bag, but I think I need something bigger to fit all the things that have been recommended.

I have baby girl's bag packed, and it's busting too.  I'm wondering if I should buy a couple of preemie sleepers, just in case.  I know she's not going to be a preemie, but that doesn't mean she'll fit the 0-3 clothes right at the beginning.

Did you know that there's nothing on TV at 7:30 on Sat. morning?  Even the cartoons suck.  When I win the lottery I'll buy a PVR.

My 'Birth and Babies' class started last Weds.  It was so nice to have Shian come with me.  She's an 'expert'!  I had to go straight from work, and also had to be at work earlier than normal, so it made for a VERY long day.  Luckily, I only have 4 more days of work left!  Then I'll be able to get in lots of relaxing time (hopefully) before baby arrives around the 15th.

My replacement at work, Fay, will be coming in for 2 days to observe me, and then she'll be subbing for me on Thurs.  It's so nice that my principal is going to pay her for those two shadow days.  I could type up everything I want to tell her, but it's soooo much easier to speak to her and show her in person.  It saves me a lot of time.

I put a note on the board in my classroom last week.  It simply said that my last day would be the 29th, and then a new teacher would take over.  You wouldn't believe how many kids asked me 'why?'!  They felt pretty dumb when I pointed to my big belly, so I went ahead and added a second note about the due date of my baby girl.  Kids are so funny sometimes.  I guess my belly is not as big as I think it is!

March 28th Ultrasound

Everything is looking really good with the baby girl.  She is measuring 5 pounds already!  The tech. said that it could be off by as much as a pound, so I don't need to worry about having a huge baby.  I have seven weeks to go, and she's supposed to gain 1/2 pound a week.

She's been making herself comfortable by sticking her little feet in my ribs.  She doesn't like it when I slouch.  It's so amazing to watch her movements!

We're on spring break right now.  I have been busy visiting friends and getting the baby stuff ready.  The weather is finally getting nicer and all the snow is melting.  It makes for very wet conditions...for the first time, I wish I had boots.

Here are a few ultrasound pictures:

Less than 2 months to go!!
