Finally, a post...

Where did June go? I hardly go an entire month without posting something. I'm sorry if you're one of those three people who actually check this blog, hoping to read something.

I'm on holidays now and pretty much bored to tears. There's lots that I could be doing...and some days I am motivated...but on other days I can't be bothered to accomplish anything.

I mopped the kitchen floor today. That's HUGE for me.

Would it have made sense to keep going and do the laundry room and bathroom? Of course! Did I? No.

It was 14 degrees today. That's COLD for July in Calgary!

My cats are driving me crazy! This is what happens when I leave the bathroom door open:

Take note that they continued to unroll and shred until they got down to the cardboard roll. THEN they managed to OPEN the little basket (it has a tight-fitting lid) where the spare roll is kept, and tore and shred it too!

When I left them for a week to visit Carolyn in Creston, they took out their anger by shredding magazines! My lovely friend, Tammy, came everyday to feed them and scoop the poop, but that wasn't good enough! A few months ago I brought home some tests to mark and stupidly left them sitting on the table. In the morning, they were all over the floor and some had been chewed so badly that I couldn't make out the answers! At least my students thought it was funny.

I'll update again tomorrow, with pictures from Creston and maybe a few others.
I hope you like the new look and blog feeds to the right. ;-)

A few changes...

During spring break I decided to adopt 2 kittens. I adopted them from the Meow Foundation. They have settled in nicely and just love those little mice toys. Their names are Genki (named after my deceased beta fish), and Precious (named after one of many cats I had growing up). They're brother and sister but don't really look alike.

Let's see...what else...I turned 30! Mom came to visit for a little over a week. It was nice to have company and my kitties enjoyed harassing her all night. I wished she lived closer.

After spring break I started my new job teaching grade 8. At first I really missed my fives but now I really like it. It's less of a workload, and fun to be able to joke around with them and be sarcastic. I can say things to them that would have made my fives go home and cry to mommy.

They've told me what I'll be teaching next year but the position has to be posted, and they have to interview for it. So that totally sucks ass. At least they want me though! It sucks that they have to jump through all these hoops before being allowed to hire me.

I love my school!

...but I can't wait for summer holidays!!!

My Classroom

Here is my classroom all done up for student-led conferences.

This is taken from the back looking towards the front white board.

The students made personalized welcome signs for their parents and taped them to the door.

Science station: making a heterogeneous mixture and sampling a solution.

Another angle.

Spelling station: give your parents a spelling test.

Social Studies station: parents graded their plasticine region maps.

This is my "modern" desk after I had locked up my laptop in the cupboard you see to the right. I don't mind the kidney shape, but give me an old fashioned desk with drawers anyday!

The view when you walk in the door.

Portfolio Station: parents read their writing and other "best" work.

Our photo wall.

Our paper mache volcanoes. We made these as part of our chemistry unit. We are going to explode them soon! (vinegar and baking soda)

Math station: give your parents a Mad Minute test.
